Port of Larne

Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, UK)

Located to the northeast of Belfast on the North Channel, the Port of Larne is Northern Ireland's busiest ferry port, handling close to one million passengers and 200,000 cars every year. The port operates the shortest sea route to mainland Britain and is well connected to public transport networks.

Facilities at the ferry port are modern and extensive and include: a cash machine, comfortable lounge areas, a buffet-style restaurant, convenience store, rail and bus stations and tourist information.

Facilities are also in place for those with special needs and mothers with babies. Short-term and long-term parking is also available.

Ferry Services

There are two major ferry services from Larne to mainland Britain and one seasonal service. P&O Irish Sea is the main operator with the popular, year-round route from Larne to Cairnryan, which sees nine daily crossings in the summer. Crossing time is just 1 hour, 45 minutes. The Larne to Troon route, which runs twice a day from March to October, has a 2-hour crossing time.

The other service to the British mainland is operated by Stena Line and runs from Larne to Fleetwood in northwest England. Stena operates a conventional roll-on, roll-off ferry in the summer months. Crossings occur up to three times per day and journey time is 8 hours. Both ferry companies run modern ships that are very well equipped with facilities.
